The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site sits on the east coast of Nova Scotia, in Cape Breton. My jaw dropped in awe when I first caught sight of the architecture and construction of the buildings. I literally danced with joy and could have spent a week here exploring every nook and cranny.
What I wanted captured in my watercolour was the mood of the wet fall day, looking through a window from within one of the stone buildings. Many times I tried to imagine what life must have been like here; cold, miserable and isolated from Europe. A cup of hot beverage, later on, helped stave off some chills.
I will return for sure. Wouldn't an artist-in-residence program help me work on an exciting series at this wonderful site?
