West Dover Barrens

These barrens of glacial, granite boulders and low-lying shrub form the landscape to much of Nova Scotia's celebrated Peggy's Cove Preservation Area. At this time of year the vegetation appears almost on fire, it is so red. In this scene, near Long Lake, I was captivated by the raw beauty of the rocky rise, the shadows and the struggling spruce.
