On the Barrens

There is a stretch of barrens located between West Dover and Peggy’s Cove ( Peggy’s Cove Preservation Area). The landscape is like nothing I have ever seen anywhere else. There are ridges of grey granite, sprinkled with boulders, some the size of houses or cars, left by the last glacier. There are spruce trees, the occasional birch or maple. There are blueberry bushes, Heath, heather and small bogs with picket plants. This extends in every direction, as far as the eye can see. Beside the ocean, are huge cliffs dropping many stories to the water.

This rocky ridge appealed to me because of the huge boulder perched on top. Also, I liked the cliff face, the spruces, the maple and birch, and the lovely blueberry plants crimson after the frost.
