Tea House on Granville

This tea house is located in the cobblestone-paved, historic downtown district of Halifax, Nova Scotia. During "normal" times the area is populated with tourists. During summer, horses pull carriages with wide-eyed visitors, buskers busk, and musicians fill the air with Celtic chords. The seductive waft of ethnic foods drive me to distraction.

I chose to paint a frontal view. A dynamic composition was created along a top-left to bottom-right line. This diagonal is more detailed while areas away from that diagonal are understated. I explored using a variety of media including watercolours, transparent burnt sienna ink, pastel, charcoal, India ink and gesso. One window has a brown collage blind to add interest for the curious viewer.
