Shore Ice in the Bay

This little bay on Porter’s Lake had a patch of shore ice gleaming in the sun! What an interesting challenge to paint the last patches of snow on the hill, the bits of open water, and the gleaming ice with filigreed of thick ice on top. The lake was an intense blue.

It became more challenging to finish the painting, as the wind kicked up and the temperature dropped and the tide was rushing towards me! My tiny strip of beach was about to be swallowed by the lake! Those of you unfamiliar with Porter’s Lake, it is a tidal estuary/lake. It’s a lake that is 80% saltwater at the lower end and 100% fresh water at the upper end. The middle is brackish water (a mixture of salt and fresh water).
