Poseidon Poised

A good friend recently asked me why do I paint these broken statues around Ringling. Honestly, I hadn't given it much thought until then. I suggested it was perhaps I sensed some sense of loss, of belonging, attention, or meaning. I also happen to be drawn to old structures whether they be buildings, run-down farm machinery or even old fence posts that line a field. Why is that?

Here, I chose to paint the statue of Poseidon that was located in the far corner of the Ringling grounds of Sarasota. His broken arms once held a trident as he fought a serpent. While painting this statue, I felt as if it became alive.
