The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse

At the corner of Bedford Row and Prince Street lies The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse, housed in the Geldert (Old Bowes) building of Halifax’s “Brick District”.  The building is pre-Confederation commercial vintage,  built in 1862 by George Blaiklock and designed by architect Henry Busch.

Busch was from Hamburg, Germany. He immigrated to Chester as a carpenter, then worked to become a well-known architect known for transitioning Halifax from wood to brick and stone. He’s also known for The Public Gardens Bandstand, the Halifax Academy and The Halifax Alehouse.

I love the arched windows with sandstone keystones, and granite support columns. An ink and wash technique was used with an attempt to be somewhat loose and impressionistic.
