At the Dakeyne Farm, Mount Denson

We were headed for the Sunflower Maze in Mount Denson, Nova Scotia, but I got sidetracked. You see, I have a weakness for rolling farm country and old barns. While Anne was buried deep in a stand of sunflowers, I hiked to a farmer's field pull off to paint. I was fascinated by the shape of the two large barns. I spoke to 'Jen' at the Dakeyne Farm's sunflower field and she told me that 100 years ago this property was a boys school (Dakeyne Street Boys Club, Nottingham, England) where youngsters were shipped over from Britain, trained to be farmers then return to their home country. I was told that they were not orphans, but middle-class boys wanting skills training.
